I am painfully on the fence about the lens, and as a result the camera in general. Honestly, this is straight-up BS! Outside on a bright, clear, snowy day, using ASA film, the only shots in focus are in the 3m to 6m range.

The autoexposure should have stopped the lens down significantly, so in situations where f4 is required it would be even worse. Some portraits at around 1. The graffiti on the pommel horse is sharp but the distant building is blurry. This should not really be a surprise.

But now the painful part… In the 3m to 6m range, this lens is really, really nice! I took a couple of group shots of some friends when we went ice swimming and they are incredibly sharp. I wish it could have been so sharp over the entire claimed focusing distance… if it was I would keep the camera.

In the end I will put this camera back on eBay, because it is not exactly what I am looking for. It has some great points however, and I am really sorry that it could not have been a little better. If the lens could either focus to infinity or give some control over focusing distance with feedback! I guess my next step will be to try and find a decently priced XA. Again, the middle ground is sharp and fairly crisp, but the distance is soft. The XA2 fixed this by adding a scale focus, so you can adjust for close, middle or infinity focus.
